「no sooner ～ than …」は「～するとすぐに…する」という意味で使います。原則は"no sooner"のあとには過去完了形、"than"のあとには過去形が使われますが、今は"no sooner"のあとに過去形や現在形を使うこともあります。強調するために"No sooner"が先頭にくる場合には、主語と動詞が入れ替わります。
He had no sooner reached his house than it began to rain.
彼が家に着くと、すぐに雨が降り始めた。
No sooner had he arrived here than he fell ill.
彼はここに着いたとたん病気になった。
He had no sooner gotten home than it stopped raining.
彼が家に帰るとすぐに雨がやんだ。
